At Houndstooth Studio we see your pet as you see them. That inquisitive head tilt. The lolloping gait. Their exuberant, rough and tumble play. Their eternally loyal and loving smile. We see all of these nuances – they’re hallmarks of your pet’s individual personality – and we capture them in timeless portraits of exquisite detail and full colour.
We live and breathe animal photography. Our photographer Alex Cearns has photographed animals exclusively for the past decade and is considered one of the best of her craft. Surrounded by animals her entire life, her innate connection and natural handling skills have helped her become an expert in photographing timid wildlife, rescued animals with behaviour issues or sick and elderly pets. She thinks it’s down to her energy and body language, but when people see how she works, many say her connection with their pets is on a whole different level.
From the tiniest to the largest domestic pets and wildlife, Alex has photographed almost every kind of furred, feathered, fanged, finned, scaled, hoofed and clawed creature. She is as excited by your ‘fur kid’ as you are and she treats your pets like she treats her own. Happy pets and happy humans are our number one priority.
As a team, we are consummate professionals. Everything we do is informed by our passion to deliver photographic excellence to you. As the leading pet photography studio in Western Australia, we work hard to make each session a truly unique and memorable experience. We maintain a consistently high standard in our images and products so you can rest assured that your pet will look their very best in our photographs.

Your photo session takes place in at one of several locations, usually hand-picked by Chronicle Photography, such as those you can read about on my locations page. I only use safe, public spaces where you can be totally at ease. When specifically requested, I can do the shoot at your home, if you have the space either using your decor as the backdrop or providing netural ones for you.
The shoot itself is usually around an hour and can incorporate a outfit change if you have one (and there is somewhere to change). I’ll already have the specific shots in mind that you are looking for from our pre-shoot discussions and will give direction as required, but if something inspires me or you during the session, we can absolutely include those ideas. The pace tends to be quite relaxed to help you feel at ease.
Once you pay the session fee, your date and time are confirmed.
The easiest way to make a booking is by using my contact form or you can call 07738596610 to speak to me directly.
Once your enquiry is received I will reply with our full session information and available times and dates. When a date and time is agreed, an online booking form will be emailed to you. Simply complete this form and return it within three business days along with your session fee payment and you are all booked in. All the ininstructions will be contained in that email.
My office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 12 noon. Outside of those hours I’m likely on a shoot and will get back to you as soon as possible.
My photo session appointments are primarily weekends or midweek from 1pm.
If you think your pet too excitable, too shy or too curious? Or they won’t sit still long enough to for a photo to be taken? No problem!
I frequently photograph nervous, anxious and aggressive dogs.
I use my understanding of animal behaviour and body language to gain your pet’s full attention and trust, while keeping them comfortable and relaxed as I capture their true character.
Your personal, private online gallery will be ready within 2 weeks of your shoot date, and remain open for 2 weeks for you to make any purchases or share with family and friends.
People often tell me that photographs are their most precious visual memories and I appreciate that you will want to make the right choices from your gallery. After all, your photographs will be in your home for many years to come.
Before your session, it is well worth considering where you’d like to hang your photographs and the sizes of images or products you’ll want. This can help alleviate the stress of decision making once you get your gallery and helps during the photo session itself as the images can be shot wide or in tight depending on how they will be displayed.
Your gallery will only be available for 2 weeks. During the first 48 hours of the gallery going live there is a special discount on any puchases made. This discount is not avaible after the 48 hours expire.
To make a purchase, navigate to any photograph and choose the ‘cart’ or ‘shopping basket’ option in the top corner of the image, which will then bring up a menu. Simply then choose a package or individual print and head to the checkout. All of these instructions are built into the gallery.
Bespoke albums and Wall Art are available and are discussed at your session. These can be ordered at the booking, or separately be emailing me.
All orders must be placed by the end of the gallery viewing period.
